It has been five years since the unprecedented Istanbulive showcase launched at Central Park SummerStage presenting the best of Turkish music this side of the Bosporus. After traveling to prestigious festivals like Lincoln Center Out of Doors and SXSW after its launch, Istanbulive returns to NY for its sixth installment. Over 20,000 fans have attended the five editions so far, and Istanbulive VI will bring its rich tapestry of traditions and talent to Brookfield Place Winter Garden in Lower Manhattan as part of The Global Beat Festival. Mehmet Dede, co-producer of Istanbulive explains, “Istanbul is nestled in the cradle of civilization where East meets West. By juxtaposing the Istanbulive showcase at the heart of Manhattan, we celebrate the diversity of New York City with the extraordinary virtuosity found in modern Turkish music today.”
Istanbulive co-producer Serdar Ilhan adds, “For this year’s showcase we are honored to present the long awaited return of Mercan Dede and Istanbul Tribe presenting his fusion of the ancient and modern sounds of Asia Minor. Along with chamber band The Secret Trio, expect a night of spellbinding beauty and soulfulness.” Istanbulive VI will hit the road in June traveling to Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto and Montreal.
